Employment and Workplace Relations

The Employment and Workplace Relations team provides a range of advice and assistance to both institutional and individual clients. It works proactively with institutional clients to assist them in developing a tailored and strategic approach to their workforce requirements. This includes the development of polices to help clients meet legislative obligations which impact on the workplace, for example, the development of workplace surveillance, email, internet and anti-discrimination policy manuals.

For larger organisations, the team develops a comprehensive employee handbook which addresses a number of administrative requirements for running the workforce while also capturing the more detailed employee obligations which are generally not to be found in contracts or letters of employment.

The Employment and Workplace Relations team assists individual clients both proactively, and as is often the case, reactively, by providing advice concerning employees' rights upon termination of their employment. One of the areas that generates the most interest amongst employers and employees is restraint of trade provisions and their enforceability or otherwise. The team regularly advises on this topic, as well as on redundancies and restructuring.
