We hope you enjoy your bottle of 2024 Fortified Chardonnay. First made famous by Henry and Maureen Wright in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. Crafted from grapes grown from the original Chardonnay cuttings and inspired by the same pioneering spirit, this limited-release, 100% Chardonnay wine, or White Port, is barrel-aged for depth, richness and complexity.
It’s all about the wine
Wrights Vineyard Fortified Chardonnay is crystalline and bright in the glass, the nose is immediately complex and enticing with white blossom and stone fruits layered with exotic fruit notes and subtle spice. The palate is compelling and individual, with Margaret River Chardonnay hallmarks of white nectarine and fig, but lifted to another level by the interplay of spirit and residual sugar. This creates a rich, textural complexity with a silken mouthfeel, balanced by vibrant varietal acidity that carries through to a long, elegant finish.
Enjoy now, chilled or poured over ice as an aperitivo, or allow it to evolve in bottle for 10 years or more to reveal deeper layers of richness and intrigue.
How it all started
Owner and curator Ian Wright spent his childhood helping his family establish Wrights Wines in Wilyabrup, one of the Margaret River region’s earliest vineyards. His parents Henry and Maureen were pioneer winemakers, back when there were only a handful of people experimenting in what was then a fledgling enterprise. Henry and Maureen planted their first vines 50 years ago and owned and operated their vineyard for 25 years, producing Vintage Port, White Port, Hermitage, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay blend. Maureen was the winemaker and the original vineyard is now Juniper Estate.
